Spliethoff-Breakbulk Carriers-Breakbulk

Established in 1921, Amsterdam-based Spliethoff operates a fleet of about 50 modern, Dutch-flagged, 1A ice-classed, multipurpose vessels, ranging from 12,000 to 23,000 DWT. All of the vessels are equipped with removable tween decks, and have cargo cranes with capacities of up to 360 tonnes in tandem lift. Spliethoff’s fleet, which is constantly being renewed, is designed to be handled safely and quickly even in adverse weather conditions.

Spliethoff offers ships that are tailored to the needs of sectors of project cargo:

-- Forest and paper products: Spliethoff manages 14 dedicated ‘S-type’ vessels, designed in close collaboration with the industry. These vessels provide special features such as a side-door system that guarantees swift, damage-free handling of paper, even in adverse weather conditions.

-- Steel and general cargo: Because of their box-shaped holds, without under-stow, these vessels are designed for all types of general cargo, thus minimizing their handling time, and enabling their quick and efficient loading. To assure that cargo is handled safely, Spliethoff enforces very strict rules for loading, lashing and securing steel. Spliethoff vessels are also equipped with dehumidifying equipment that reduces the risk of rust developing during the voyage.

-- Mining and power-equipment project cargo: For decades, Spliethoff has handled project cargo shipments for mining facilities and power generation plants, as well as for petrochemical plants and oil refineries. Spliethoff is also experienced in offshore pipe-laying support, and supplying pipes to other vessels at sea as well as supplying such equipment to users on barges and quays.
