In another big-ticket reform initiative, India’s union cabinet on Wednesday approved new legislation meant to transform major, or public, ports into independent companies.
Container volumes grew 6.7 percent year-over-year in fiscal year 2014-2015 at India’s major ports owned by the federal government, according to provisional port figures compiled by JOC.com.
Container throughput at major ports in India tumbled 5.16 percent year-over-year from April through November, but total cargo tonnage inched up 1.43 percent, according to provisional figures released by the Indian Ports Association.
