In Singapore, there are two main commercial port terminal operators. PSA Singapore Terminals manages the major share of container handling in Singapore, while Jurong Port Pte. is Singapore’s principal bulk and conventional cargo terminal operator. Their terminals can accommodate all vessel types, including container ships, bulk carriers, ro-ro ships, cargo freighters, coastal trading ships (coasters), and lighters (flat-bottom barges for transferring goods and cargo from moored ships.)

PSA Singapore Terminals operates four separate container terminals, with a total of more than fifty berths, at Tanjong Pagar, Keppel, Brani and Pasir Panjang, in one integrated facility. Pasir Panjang Terminal (PPT) can handle mega container vessels of above 13,000 TEUs with quay cranes that can reach across 22 rows of containers. Remote-controlled bridge cranes allow each operator to handle up to six cranes.

Jurong Port handles steel products, cement, project cargo and copper slag, using an extensive network of pipelines and conveyor systems for speedy and environmentally friendly discharge and loading.

Singapore is also widely considered one of the largest and most important bunkering ports in the world. Bunkering is the process of supplying fuels to ships for their own use.
